How to use the syllabus effectively.

Download the syllabus.

Print off the syllabus or write down the unit names in your notebook. Add three little boxes next to each unit for Read, Notes and Revised. Tick the boxes as you go. This will clearly show you how much you have left to do.

Match IT to your textbook.

The UP Board also release notices on what textbooks should be used. Ensure you’re using the same books as your school. Match the chapters to the units in the syllabus. If a chapter isn’t in the syllabus then ask your teacher before skipping IT.

Plan your timetable.

The Board Exams for Class 10 and 12 start in February 2027 (official timetable notice). Work out how many weeks you have left and split your units across these weeks. Leave a few weeks at the end for revising and past papers.

Practical/Internal.

Some subjects have practical elements or internal marks. Check the split of marks in the syllabus PDF if available. Plan in time for practical files and projects.

Common mistakes.

  • Using an old syllabus. Topics can change each year, ensure you download from the correct page (2026-27).
  • Incorrect class. Class 9 and 10 are very similar. Ensure the filename shows the correct class.
  • Hindi & Elementary Hindi. Make sure you don’t mix these two UP. They are different subjects with different codes (High School: 901 & 902).
  • Edited PDFs. Some websites edit the syllabus. Only the official board page can be trusted.
  • Not using IT. Just having IT in a folder won’t help. Use IT as a checklist each week.

Top tips for students in small towns.
