Short answer: If your laptop work is mostly notes, browsers, coding, and videos, a solid 60Hz panel is enough. Choose 120Hz when you care about smoother scrolling and motion, play competitive games, or want the screen to feel more fluid in daily use—and you can accept a higher price and some battery cost.

Also consider entry-level campus laptops. Many reliable student models ship with 60Hz panels that stay readable with decent brightness. Smoothness is nice; reliability and keyboard comfort often matter more across a multi-year degree.

What refresh rate actually changes
